This piece for bassoon and string quartet is inspired by Korea’s representative folk song Arirang and Jeju Island’s Iyahong Taryeong. Capturing the beauty and sentiment of Korea, the music forms a journey around the Korean Peninsula in a clockwise direction, following Haeju Arirang, Miryang Arirang, Iyahong Taryeong, Jindo Arirang, and Gyeonggi Arirang. The unique melodies and rhythms of each region blend harmoniously, allowing listeners to experience the scenic landscapes of Korea through the warm resonance of the bassoon and strings.
I dedicate this piece to my dearly missed mom and dad.
