저자가 20여 년간 ‘통일된 새로운 나라’라는 화두를 가지고 연구소와 현장에서 얻은 고민과 경험의 결과물이다. 저자는 코리아가 이 천년간 강대국들의 이전투구의 장이었던 이 땅에서 살아남기 위해서는 한국 중심의 좁은 시야가 아니라, 패권국의 어깨 위에서 한반도의 역사를 바라봐야 한다고 제안한다.

저자는 패권국에 의해 좌우된 치욕의 악순환을 끊고, 코리아의 운명을 개척하기 위해 2천 년간 반복되어 온 역사의 메커니즘을 분석하고 있다. 코리아가 강력한 힘을 가진 동북아의 균형자 역할을 하기 위해서 통일이 반드시 필요하다고 역설하고 있으며, 이를 위해 확고한 중심을 가진 유연한 외교 정책의 원칙을 제시한다.

배기찬

1962년 생. 서울대학교 인문대에서 동양사, 행정대학원에서 정책학을 공부했다. 1980년대 말 한국사회연구소에서 국제관계 및 남북관계를 연구했고, 1990년대 중반 일본 도쿄대학교에서 ‘동아시아 패권체제와 코리아’를, 미국 하버드대학교에서 ‘북한의 체제변화를 위한 국제협력’을 연구했다. 
국회 외무통일위원회 등에서 정책을 다루었고, 2000년 이후 해양수산부장관 자문관, 대통령 후보 정책팀장, 대통령직인수위 전문위원, 청와대 국정과제 담당팀장으로 일하면서 국정 리더십과 정책현안, 국정비전과 국정과제를 기획하고 추진했다.
세종리더십개발원을 만들었고, 한국청년연합 창립위원이며, 청와대 산하 정책기획위원회 정책평가위원과 자문위원을 지냈다. 국회의장 정책비서관을 역임했고, 현재 대통령 비서관으로서 동북아시대위원회 기획조정실장으로 일하고 있다. 


김진

Dartmouth College에서 영문학을 전공했고, 코리아헤럴드 기자로 활동했다. 현재, 서울에서 작가 겸 번역가로 활동 중이다
